CALL FOR ARTISTS

Mad River Lofts, LLC in Winsted, CT is sponsoring a public art competition to commission works that will be mounted on windows on the lower level of an historic mill building currently undergoing renovation. Twelve windows on the Main Street-facing north facade of the building - eight 68" x 48" and four 68" x 32" - will be awarded. In partnership with Friends of Main Street, this project has been awarded a REGI grant by the Northwest Connecticut Arts Council in partnership with the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development, Office of the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Work may be 2- or 3- dimensional in any media or material suitable for exposure to the elements. Artists may propose work for a single window or multiple windows. The work will be viewed from Main Street across the Mad River, approximately 50 feet. Artists will be provided with a substrate board upon which the work(s) will be executed or mounted and a stipend of $300.00 per window toward expenses. The works will be illuminated at night.

The theme for the Mad River Lofts project is A Place for Art, Innovation and Entrepreneurship. We encourage entrants to use their imaginations when developing pieces for this competition. We’d like to see artists develop 3D and kinetic pieces. The more unusual and creative the better.
